Special Forces are therefore detailed to conduct direct action missions against selected targets in the Soviet rear area. One team of commandoes is currently operating in the vicinity of Eilte where several worthwhile targets have been identified. These will have to be destroyed before the Delta team links up with a long range surveillance team that provided the intelligence for the raid.

The first objective is the destruction of a Soviet ammunition depot established at an industrial compound. As the enemy artillery is consuming tremendous amounts of rounds denying the Soviets several units of fire worth of 122mm and 152mm shells would make life for NATO frontline troops slightly more bearable as the intensity of bombardment cannot be sustained. Therefore the commando unit will ensure the destruction of all stockpiled rounds in the depot. This can be achieved with command detonated satchel charges or other expedient means.

A following task is the elimination of enemy air defences. The Shilka SPAAG is a very effective system able to deny a significant amount of airspace to low flying NATO strike aircraft. Knocking out these vehicles will open up an alternative route for fighter bombers to fly into the enemy hinterland and strike at the reinforcements and supplies streaming west. As the ZSU-23-4 is lightly protected by armour the LAW launchers stocked in the commando team's vehicles are the preferred method of dealing with this type of target.

The main objective is the destruction of the bridge over the Aller. By blowing up one of the bridge spans over the water the ancillary supply route will no longer be available, thereby adding to the congestion already occurring near the main river crossing used by the enemy. Such an enlarged concentration of Soviet supply vehicles will comprise a worthwhile target for NATO long range artillery strikes with Lance ballistic missiles. Therefore the commandoes must place a minimum of four charges to bring down a bridge section.

A final target to be hit is an overnight location used by Soviet fuel supply convoys. As driving with lights attracts unwanted attention from marauding NATO helicopter gunships conducting deep strikes during the night hours the shortage of image intensification equipment allowing movement in black out conditions forces enemy supply convoys to halt operations during darkness. As a number of fuel bowsers have lagered at the village of Eilte these trucks will also be hit in order to exacerbate existing shortages of diesel at the front.

Once all objectives have been achieved the commando team is to link up with a reconnaissance patrol that has taken up position at a farm to the east of Eilte. These scouts can proceed to guide the Delta unit to a secure lying up position where the troops can stay during the daytime hours until the onset of night creates favourable conditions for raiding activities. They can also brief the commandoes on the disposition of Soviet forces and targets of opportunity that are vulnerable to attack by small units of Special Forces.
